New River Valley Public Records Search
Millions of people turn to the internet everyday to search for public records, but they often find themselves lost in a sea of websites that charge for their services. These websites simply build search engines that scrounge through free public record databases, and when they are finished gathering the records you want, they repackage this free information and try to sell it to you.
It’s free; don’t pay for it. For the residents of the New River Valley, I have assembled a list of government resources where local public records can be found free. You won’t find any BS here, just a list of free stuff you can actually use.
Geographic Information System (GIS)
Through the GIS, you can find anything you need to know about any local house, business or plot of land. You can find who owns what, what it’s worth, the size of the house or land, the zoning, the mailing address and more. The GIS takes a little practice to navigate, but it is well worth the effort. The GIS is separated by county, and the following links will take you there: Montgomery County, Giles County, Pulaski County, Floyd County, and Wythe County.
Virginia Court Case Information
Here you can find anything you ever wanted, or not wanted to know about anyone. You can find out who got a ticket, a felony charge, a drug charge, a DUI and more. You can search by name, through general district and circuit court, to find out what anyone has ever done. If anything ever went through any court in Virginia, you will find it here: Virginia Judicial System. And if you want to find out where an offender is incarcerated in Virginia, you can search by name here: VDOC Offender Locator
Virginia Sex Offender Registry
You can go here, browse by name or locality and find names and pictures of Virginia’s convicted and wanted sex offenders. If a sex offender lives on your street, or works where you work, you will find them here: Virginia SOR
All of the public records above are free, but if you want to obtain any other type of local public records, it may cost you a little time or money. If you want access to local marriage, divorce, birth or death records, go here: Virginia Records Management System. This will give you online access to these records, but first you have to obtain a username and password from your local Circuit Court Clerk’s Office to use the site. And if you want to obtain a certified vital copy of the above records, this is the only place to get it: VDH Office of Vital Records
